Structure of the Coronavirus

  • Structure - 4 main structural points: spike glycoprotein (outer part of the virus, and bind to the surface receptor of the host cell), small envelope, membrane, and nucleocapsid protein.

  • Covid-19 is in the family of coronaviruses; this specific one is from an animal, more specifically a bat. There are two other beta coronaviruses like Covid that also find their origins in bats known as MERS & SARS-CoV.  Both of other coronaviruses infected humans in China however neither had such a large outbreak
