Part 2

Scheduling

  • Ideally, each class would have half the usual amount. To do this, schools may want to have only half the students in the school at a time. This would reduce the number of students in the class, the hallways, and on the buses.

    • Schools could run on a half-day schedule where half the students come in the morning, and the other half come in the afternoon. Students can rotate in which session they attend.

    • Students rotate daily, every other day, weekly, biweekly, monthly, or bimonthly. Half the students come in for several days, weeks, and/or months, while the other students remain at home. They would then switch. Virtual instruction could continue through a live stream for the students who remain at home.

  • Instead of students switching from class to class, teachers would switch. This would limit the number of students passing in the hallway.

    • It may be difficult to put together classes of kids that all have the same classes of the same skill level.

    • Perhaps this would work with an alternating 2+ day schedule. A,B...etc.

  • Arrival and dismissal times may have to be varied for students. This would ensure that there aren’t too many people entering and leaving the school at the same time.

    • Perhaps students could form a line outside. Each student would be safely distanced while entering.

Social Distancing

Social Distancing

  • With fewer students in the classrooms, there would be more room to spread the desks out to a safe distance.

  • With fewer students going to school at a time, fewer people would be on the bus, allowing students to spread out.

  • Guided tape in the hallways. Students can have a guide as to how far apart they should be standing from each other in the hallway

  • Guided tape in the cafeteria for safely distanced lunch seating. Some students could eat lunch in the classrooms.

  • Limit the number of students in the bathrooms at a time.

  • Students should limit interaction during class. Teachers’ lessons should not include group work. If group or partner work is needed, students should wear masks or try to stay distanced from one another.

  • Playgrounds should remain closed.

  • Teachers can have the option of holding class outside if they feel the class is too large, or partner work is needed.

  • Students should leave and enter the classroom one at a time

  • Teachers will also set up their classroom the way they deem necessary and safe.
