Recovery & Treatment

Treatment

As of June 10, 2020 there is no known vaccine for the virus.

Treatments currently being used in some cases:

  • What is being used are antiviral medication, while it does not kill the virus it limits the production of new virus

  • Remdesivir, a drug used to combat Ebola, this shortens the recovery time of patients it does no kill the virus though

  • Monoclonal antibodies, this helps strengthen the immune system response in the later stages of the virus; it does not kill the virus.

Recovery

Being infected once does not prevent a second infection but it does help combat the next infection. Once a virus enters the body for the first time the immune system does not know how to kill the virus or how the virus works and what it does. That is why the first time you are infected with something it is the worst case scenario. After this first interaction with the virus the immune system creates a memory cell which holds information on the virus so the next time the virus enters the body the immune system knows exactly how to combat the virus.
